Notice to Prospective Employees
The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office is looking to fill our positions of public trust and confidence with only those applicants who are honest, fair, trustworthy, and respect the law and the rights of others. In the past, we have found that most people are reluctant to answer questions regarding their past employment; possible drug involvement, criminal activity or other questions which they feel may present them in a negative light. We understand that no one is perfect! For that reason, we will take into consideration all factors (i.e. time frame, severity, age, etc.) surrounding all incidents.
An applicant will be rejected “who has intentionally made a false statement of a material fact, practiced or attempted to practice any deception or fraud in his/her application, examination or in securing his/her eligibility for appointment”. All information obtained during the selection process will be subject to review for truthfulness and integrity during a polygraph examination.
Members hired after March 14, 2011, are required to be nicotine free as part of the hiring process. In addition, they will be required to acknowledge their understanding and agreement to the Sheriff’s policy restricting the use of nicotine/tobacco products. These members will be subject to nicotine/tobacco testing when reasonable suspicion exists.
Members hired after March 14, 2011, shall not have visible body ornamentation while in uniform. If covering the body ornamentation is not possible with Class B uniform, Class A uniform, other approved clothing, or through other means approved by the Sheriff, the person will not be eligible for hire.
SELECTION PROCESS: Once your preliminary application has been accepted and approved, you will receive a FULL APPLICATION for your completion. As positions are available, the Division Commander will review your application along with others for selection. If you are selected, you will receive a Conditional Offer of Employment. At this time, you will be required to come to Key West to complete post offer testing to include but not limited to a polygraph examination, a psychological written examination and oral interview and drug urinalysis.
Preference in the selection of vacant positions will be given to eligible veterans and spouses of veterans.
