Special Olympics Law Enforcement Torch Run, 2004
On April 23rd, 2004 Keys L aw enforcement officers and other runners began the lower Keys leg of the Special Olympics Torch Run. The run kicks off the opening ceremonies of the Special Olympic Games on Friday May 7th in Tampa. Among those joining the run were officers from the Key West Police, Monroe County Sheriff's Office and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.
The Keys leg of the run began at the Southernmost Point, and stopped at several local schools, including H.O.B. Middle School, the High School and Poinciana School. At each school local school children joined the runners and carried the torch for a short distance through their respective schools.
