The Watch Card Program gives deputies on patrol a tool to let property owners know if they observe a security breach at a particular location. Deputies, primarily those on evening and night shifts, check local businesses or homes for any safety problems or criminal activity. They check for open windows, unlocked doors, ladders or other tools left readily accessible to thieves, or any other potential safety or security issue.
After performing the property check, the officer fills out a “Watch Card” with details of his or her observations. The card includes the deputy’s name and identification number, the date and time the property was checked and a case number if an offense report was completed. The card is slipped under the front door so it will be readily found.
Of course, if the safety problem is a serious one, every effort will be made to contact a responsible party to correct it as soon as possible.
