Detention Deputy

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office has immediate openings for certified Detention Deputies or non-certified Detention Deputy Trainees.


High School graduate or equivalent


Must be at least 19 years of age and a United States citizen. Must never have been convicted of a felony. Not convicted of a misdemeanor involving moral turpitude within the last three years. Must be able to work all shifts, weekends and holidays. Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver’s License. Must possess Florida certification as a correctional officer.

 Non-certified applicants will be sponsored as a Detention Deputy Trainee to attend the Criminal Justice Program’s Detention Academy at the Florida Keys Community College.

Monroe County is a drug-free workplace and will conduct drug/alcohol testing
