HazSWAT Training

Broward County - Four members of the Sheriff's Office Special Weapons and Tactics Team attended a special course in handling hazardous materials last week in Broward County alongside members of the Broward and Palm Beach County SWAT teams.

The course is called Hazardous Materials Incident Response for law enforcement tactical Officers, or HazSWAT. It is a course in Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response specifically designed for the tactical law enforcement officer. The course is compliant with Osha's standards 29 CFR 1910.120 and 1926.65, which cover emergency response operations for releases of, or substantial threats of releases of, hazardous substances (HAZWOPER).

Among other things, the course teaches tactical officers Evidence Preservation and Sampling; Air Monitoring and Sampling; Victim Rescue and Recovery; and Illicit Laboratory Incidents.
