Monroe County Sheriff's Sgt. Joseph Passarelli, 41 years of age, died March 25th of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.
Sgt. Passarelli was hired in March of 1987 as a road patrol deputy working in the upper Keys. He worked there until January of 1989 when he transferred to the lower Keys. He worked road patrol in that area until March of 1990 when he transferred to our Traffic Enforcement Division. He worked traffic enforcement until his promotion to a lower Keys sergeant's position in August of 1993. In December of 2003, he transferred back to the upper Keys and worked there as a road patrol sergeant until his death.
The Sheriff's Office will held a memorial service for Sgt. Passarelli March 31st, 2005 at the Sheriff's Office Aviation Hangar at the Marathon Airport.
