About District One - Lower Keys
The Lower Keys District is Monroe County’s largest district – spanning from the 40 Mile Marker south to the City of Key West.
Station Commander Lieutenant Donato Elomina oversees the task of supervising deputies responding to 59,638 calls for service, inclusive of 13,229 watch orders and 6,538 documented community contacts over the course of the year.
Captain Don Hiller commands the entire district, overseeing all operations in the Lower Keys.
The detective unit is headed up by Sgt. Donald Catala, a long time law enforcement veteran who also headed up the Special Weapons and Tactics team for many years.
There are four road patrol squads each made up of five deputies which provide customer service to county residents around-the-clock. The road patrol squads are supervised by Sergeants Evan Calhoun, Tom Walker, Geni Hernandez and Lionel Vargas.
The support staff at the Freeman Substation on Cudjoe Key is comprised of Administrative Assistants Brenda Winegarden and Colleen Carter who keep the district’s records management flowing.
