District Four and Five - Middle Keys
The middle Keys jurisdictional area is comprised of two districts, District 4, the city of Marathon, from the north end of the 7 mile bridge to Tom's Harbor Cut Bridge at the 60.5 mile marker of Highway U.S. One; and District 5, from Tom's Harbor Cut Bridge to the Islamorada city limits, at the 74 mile marker of Highway U.S. One.
The Key Vaca Substation at the 47 mile marker of Highway U.S. One and a satellite Detention Facility is located in this area and serves both districts. Key Colony Beach, located adjacent to the city of Marathon, has its own small Police Force.
The districts include two support staff, four sergeants, a civil officer, a marine officer, a K-9 officer, a detective sergeant, three detectives and 19 patrol officers, for a total of 34 employees.
Road patrol deputies work 12 hour shifts reporting to a patrol shift sergeant. During 2012, these officers handled over 45,000 calls for service making over 550 arrests.
