Sheriff's Office Divisions and Departments
The Sheriff's Office Administration Division is responsible for all support services divisions within the Sheriff's Office, including the Records Division, Property Division, Finance and Human Resource Divisions, as well as all insurance and workman's compensation claims. The Division is headed up by Administrative Bureau Chief Mike Rice.
The Office of Professional Standards is headed up by Captain Don Hiller, and is comprised of several different units, including Internal Affairs, Accreditation, Staff Inspections, Monroe HIDTA and Airport Operations.
The Office of Internal Affairs handles all Internal Affairs investigations (investigations of complaints against employees).
Accreditation uses thorough inspections to ensure all policies and procedures of the Monroe County Sheriff's Office are being adhered to in compliance with State and National Accreditation. Staff Inspections are an integral part of this office as well. These two units are headed up by Lieutenant Cindy Peryam.
The Monroe County High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) initiative fulfills a unique need for the law enforcement community. Part of the greater South Florida HIDTA group and even larger National HIDTA organization, it addresses the unique issues of drug-trafficking and money-laundering in South Florida. The task force comprises federal, state and local law enforcement officers.
The Sheriff's Office handles Airport Security at the Key West Internaitonal Airport utilizing both certified officers and civilian Airport Security Technicians.
The Legal Division of the Sheriff's Office handles legal affairs. The Sheriff's Office General Counsel is Attorney Patrick McCullah.
Law Enforcement/Operations Division
The Division of Law Enforcement includes all road patrol officers, detectives and traffic enforcement officers. Also under the auspices of Law Enforcement are the K-9 unit, Special Weapons and Tactics team, Dive Team and Special Investigations Division which includes Narcotics Investigations, Homicide Investigations and the Crimes Against Women and Children’s Unit.
The Division of Law Enforcement/Operations is headed up by Law Enforcement Bureau Major Lou Caputo.
The Community Relations Division is made up of Crime Watch, Crime Prevention, Public Information/Media Relations, Web Site management, all School Resource Officers and all Juvenile Programs, including Teen Court, IDDS and Explorer/Cadets. The Office of Community Relations is headed up by Director Becky Herrin.
The Division of Corrections is comprised of Detention Centers in Plantation Key, Marathon and the main Detention Facility on Stock Island. The Division of Corrections is headed up by Commander, Major Tommy Taylor.
